1. Tell me please, why "Fleming" and how did it all start ?
John 'OO' Fleming: Because I didn't want a regular job! I loved music so much that I was driven to make a living out of it. When I started in the mid 80's it was a hard slog because the Dj culture wasn't like it is today so it took many years of hard work trying to make things work.
2. Being one of the actual pioneers within EDM spectrum lately, tell me how long have you been involved ?
John 'OO' Fleming: I first started DJing way back in 1985 at the age of 15, so I've seen all stages of how the EDM scene has progressed. It's been a really interesting journey watching the ups and downs of this scene.
3. What's the current situation nowadays - what's new in the world of John 00’ Fleming ?
John 'OO' Fleming: I've always been in the mind set of being a DJ first then producers second, but recently I've been none stop producing music, churning out three albums in the past 3 years! I've also neglected singles too, so I'm currently on my fourth one this year, so Fleming is certainly on a mission!
4. Tell me about this new release along Digital Blonde, called "Variations In Trance".
John 'OO' Fleming: Myself and Digital Blonde go back many years, not only as friend but as production partners. When we're together in the studio something magical happens. So we where invited by Loopmasters to share our magic fairy dust with them in the form of these studio tools for the 'VAriations in Trance' album. We spent almost a year putting this together making original; sounds, melodies, samples and loops.
5. Despite being a "royalty free collection of sounds and samples worth 1GB altogether", what else can you tell me about it ?
John 'OO' Fleming: We wanted producers to be able to drag n drop all the elements instantly into their own tracks, so they can instantly get a strong basis for their own track. As you can see with 1GB of content, you have loooaaaddsss of elements to chose from... including some of those awesome Digital Blonde trademark pads.
6. In terms of productions, what other artists would you like to collaborate with in the future ?
John 'OO' Fleming: I have a long wish list, but finding the time is proving difficult. Being honest, I'm happy working with The Digital Blonde as we have amazing musical chemistry between us. We are have fun working together, to me that's the most important thing because I love making music and never want to see it as a business. I'm also doing projects together with Airwave who is a very long term friend and probably one of the best producers on this planet. I'm already working with the two guys that where on my wish list.
7. I know a few JOOF fans myself, including me and I bet there are more fans out there! Do you have any advice on those who would like to follow in your steps to one day be a JOOF artist ?
John 'OO' Fleming: Too many new producers have the theory of copying what the top guys are doing to get their careers going. The problem there is that the rest of the world is thinking this too meaning that we have an over kill of sameish sounding cheap music... copy & paste culture as we all call it. You won't get noticed of you're doing exactly the same as everyone else, and I certainly don't look for artist like this on my label. The guys that break away from this will be the ones that get noticed. We desperately need new music and talent in this scene, so be brave and make music from your heart.
8. Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, really appreciate it, big time. Have you got any last words for the ones reading this exclusive interview, or else the TranceSound.net community ?
John 'OO' Fleming: You're a Trance website, so take a look back at the history of Trance. Research why Trance was called Trance music. The English Dictionary should help you with the definition of the word Trance. Today's Trance music is more like Euro pop, and I wish more people would acknowledge the routes of Trance music and break the mould of following the masses. There's a really exciting world of Trance out there for you to discover, if you really love and appreciate music then you'll love this more serious take on Trance music. Forget boundaries and genres, just enjoy Trance music!!
