Interview with Gerardo Boscarino
    1. Hi there, how's everything nowadays ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Hey! Hi, everything is great, working a lot, thank God. Keeping myself very busy.

    2. Going back in time, what was your favorite track from Robert Mile's CD, that you have purchased at 17 years old ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Actually, I didn't purchase this CD, it was given to me as a gift by a friend. I was staying at his house one summer and I found it among his CDs and once I played it, I kept on playing it over and over again, so I guess he finally had no choice but to just give it away. That record is amazing from beginning to end, but if I have to pick, I guess "Fable", or "Children" were my favorite. Amazing tunes, they gave me a first idea of what electronic music should do to your body and your soul.

    3. Please tell me the feeling, how it was, when Hernan Cattaneo played Your very first track ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Well, it's always a great pleasure to know a great Dj such as Hernan is supporting your music. He hasn't played many of my tunes though, I guess mainly because over the time, and even though he has always been a great inspiration to me, we have parted ways sound-wise.

    4. Looking back, what did You most admire about EDM and what's still there nowadays ?

Gerardo Boscarino: I love music in general, of course I have certain predilection for certain styles, even within electronic dance music, it's not like I enjoy all of them, but I guess what I can point out is, how EDM is so universal, all you have to do is feel it and dance it, never-mind if you are in Europe, America, Africa, wherever, people just let go and follow the rhythm.

    5. As you continue this legacy, what's Your ultimate dream for Your music, and what have You found to be Your definition of success ?

Gerardo Boscarino: My definition of success is exactly what I dream for my music to give me, and it's a chance to make people enjoy themselves with what I do, and be able to live and make a living by doing so, and so it does everyday.

    6. We already know Your track called "Pai Mei", but can you tell us further details about it ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Well, "Pai Mei" was my first tune, I have always been a fan of Quentin Tarantino and Kill Bill is an amazing movie, as soon as I laid hands on that vocal, I knew I had to use it on a track. To be honest, I don't think "Pai Mei" is overall a good tune, I didn't really know much about mastering back then, and I didn't know much about producing in general either, the breakdown, though, I think I nailed, it sounds exactly as I intended it to and it still gives me the creeps. I would like to think I did some learning over the time and have since, gotten much better at producing.

    7. What's the story behind one of Your latest track called "Thus spoke the Dark Lord" ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Not much of a story, really, I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter saga, books and movies and I was producing this tune and I ripped a small part of one of the movie and included it at the end of the breakdown, with Voldemort speaking to Harry, thought it sounded cool.

    8. Speaking about that, as far as solo released goes, what is Your latest track ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Well, I am no producing machine, really, and with all the gigs and the traveling, it's really hard for me to find the time to sit in the studio and produce. That's why I have been remixing a lot more than producing my own music, I find it easier and faster, and I am not quite sure, but I guess my last original tune that has been released was in fact, thus spoke...

    9. How's Your collaboration with Jason Jollins's Acute Recordings so far and when this got revealed ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Jason and I have shared a very good friendship over the years, and he is always a mess with the traveling and everything, as we all are, and he trusts my music taste, so he asked me to give him a hand in selecting the demos Acute got from producers. I am not sure when this started, but it's fun listening to mostly unknown producers and choosing music for the label, you never know when you are going to get surprised.

    10. Who do You have on production and guest appearances ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Lately I have been working with Federico Monachesi, a great producer who lives in my town and with whom I share a great deal of taste in music, we have been working on some stuff, but I also have some other collaborations with other great Argentinean producers under-way I wish to do in the near future, just have to find the time.

    11. What is your most important source of inspiration for your music ?

Gerardo Boscarino: I think music itself is inspiring, I don't really need anything else. Just the rush of finding that new perfect tune that blows your mind and you know is going to work amazingly on the dance-floor is more than enough inspiration.

    12. It is known that few years ago your main style was Progressive/Deep house, do you still spin it or changed it after the world requests ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Times change and music morphs constantly, I don't think there's one single Dj who doesn't morph along with it. I know I play tracks that sound very differently from what I used to play a couple years ago, but I always try to keep that progressive feel on the overall result of my mixes. Keep the feel, the vibe and the atmosphere that progressive house transmits.

    13. Creamfields Argentina means what for you as an artist ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Creamfields Argentina is as we all know, one of the worlds most renowned electronic music festivals, and it's of course an icon in my country. But it's also a business run by people and not all of us can hope to get to it because of different interests and situations.

    14. Is there a special place where you would like to spin or else you will always go back to, as in memorable moments ?

Gerardo Boscarino: I guess I would love to play again in an amazing underground club in my city called Nocturno, I did my first appearance ever as a Dj there and the vibe in that place was unbelievable. Unfortunately, that club closed it's doors years ago and it's never coming back. Good times, though.

    15. What do you like the most ? To produce your own tracks or to remix others ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Producing my own music is always much more enjoyable, but as I stated before, time isn't always on my side.

    16. Just before ending this interview, can you share something for those which are starting their own Dj/producer career ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Number one: Do it for the love of music and the love of music only, everything else is secondary. Number two: A great Dj once suggested I read "How to DJ right", a book by Frank Broughton and Bill Brewster. Great book!

    17. Now that we are nearly finished, are there any last words that You would like to share to all TranceSound.net members ?

Gerardo Boscarino: Yeah, thank you all for taking the time to read this interview, it's always fun doing one with original questions such as these. Hope you all the best, and keep on enjoying dance music, regardless your favorite style!
