| Interview with Tenishia ( 17.09.2007 - 18:15 GMT UTC )
1. A while a ago You did Your thing with Kirsty Hawkshaw and also Jan Johnston so what were the best of those times working with these fine ladies ?
Joven - Considering that both Jan and Kirsty have big experience in the scene and that they were both there to put djs like Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold at the top of the list, at first I couldn't believe that we are working with such great singers!! Both Jan and Kirsty are really down to earth and very nice to work with, their advice surely helped us along the way and today we consider both of them as great friends!!
Cyprian - The best thing is surely the experience you get by working with these singers, I mean they worked with some of the best djs on the planet. So the final product has to be consistent with other big tunes they already produced before.
2. How it feels to have two sides of music coming from Malta and blending it in with Australian electronic dance music ?
Joven - I think, the scene in Malta is bit different from Melbourne but then it is not as varied, Hard Trance is still big here while in Malta is long gone where the scene is more into progressive sounds. The good thing is that the population in Melbourne is far bigger then Malta so the tastes of music have a wider span! Still like Malta the Main Stage of the biggest events are always Trance!!
3. How much do You think appearing on one of the best compilantions out there, like Cream 2007 and also Matt Darey's Nocturnal CD aswell, Armin van Buuren's annual A State of Trance 2007 and also talking about Cosmic Gate and Jose Amnesia remixes help out your own movement ?
Joven - We can actually say that we made on the best compilations out there including Ministry of Sound, Global Gathering (Godskitchen), Cream 2007 and the list goes on. Some of these sell over 400,000 copies around the world and obviously that is good promotion. Getting remixes from Cosmic Gate and Jose Amnesia also helped our movement, the two names have been in the scene for a long while.
Cyprian - Well, after all the hard work and hours spent at the studio it surely gives you a sense of satisfaction. At least you get a free copy of the album hahhaahha
4. Have you guys ever felt any backstab for pursuing a career in electronic dance music so far ? Or has everyone pretty much welcomed You with open arms ?
Joven - Like in every industry there are good people and bad people out there, some willing to help and some ready to stab. Sometimes it is unbelievable what some people can do to keep you down so they look better, but that only shows that they are afraid of you! Its not how strong you are but how long you can take it to make it through. On the other hand we also met very nice people which really helped us along the way. At the end of the day both good and bad people take a look at themselves as outsiders but deep down not everybody like what he sees!!
Cyprian - In this industry you will always find people who hate, trying to backstab you every chance they get. You just have to focus on yourself and your music and move on. They well get there answer sooner or later. There are other people who have helped us move along the way just because they are in the industry for the love of music.
5. Was there any particular reason why You named Your track along Kirsty Hawkshaw "Reasons To Forgive" ?
Cyprian - Originally we called the tune ' Somebody Out there' but we had to change the name to 'Reasons to Forgive' for publishing reasons but nothing in particular.
6. So whats a typical day in the life of Joven ? Since You have moved to Melbourne Australia ? Are You pretty much a down to earth person when not performing ? Tell us more about a day out of the studio please.
Joven - I spent most of my time on the computer, doing all the work that this career brings with but when I'm not I'll do anything that comes in hand. I think life is short and we have to make the best out of it so you can find me do anything from playing my Xbox to fishing on a pier. I'm very easy going and easy to make friends with, both on and off stage. Besides everything I love my two daughters!! Kylie, she is six and Tenishia which is due in December!
7. So do You think fans over seas are more appreciative of trance than fans here, back in Europe ?
Joven - Hmm i haven't been long enough here to really answer that question but I've met some mad trance lovers here and on a particular gig I played at. I could see that the crowd really appriciated the newest tunes!! but I think real trance lovers are the same all around the world
8. Where did the idea for "Everything but the girl - Missing" come from ?
Cyprian - Someone came up with the accapella and gave us the idea of doing a bootleg that we can play out on our sets, The track was big in the 90's so we were up for it. We are still trying to clear the rights so hopefully we can release the track. The amount of good feedback we got about this bootleg is incredible, as people from around the world has e-mailed us about it after it was played on the 'Global DJ Broadcast'
9. Despite the fact that we can listen the track on Your MySpace profile for free, and make a note about it, please share some of Your tricks and things that You have made this awesome track to sound like that... things like 'Mida`s touch' whatever You guys put Your hands on, it turns into a hit ?
Joven - Yeah, Harry Potter is our mate !!! Hahaha... Erm,... Not sure I think every music producer has his own way and style of making music its just the way we felt it sounded good.
Cyprian - The trick is to follow your instinct, and maybe add some multiband compressing to spice it up.. hahhaha
10. Few weeks ago, I have seen a playlist of Dj Tiesto, in one of his latest gigs, at that day, and he played some of your tracks, please tell me how do you guys feel about Tijs (Dj Tiesto) playing Your tunes and also doing his thing with it, like spreading the name 'Tenishia' being well known already ?
Joven - Getting playlisted by big djs like Tiesto is surely a great thing and its an honour to have the biggest deejays liking our sounds!
Cyprian - That really gets me more motivated to do music, it means we are on the right track.
11. I have a very close friend of mine from London, and he is willing to find out, what makes Your sound so special, the ringing bells, the piano, or just the simple Tenishia style, which You won`t share the secret at this stage ?
Joven - I'm not sure what makes it sounds special, the style... maybe?
Cyprian - Music with heart
