Interview with Six Senses ( 30th of December 2007 17:20 GMT UTC )
Thanks for accepting having the exclusive interview for TranceSound.net and also I hope the questions covers almost all the aspect about Six Senses lately, as an artist and as a person as well, cheers :)
1. How is everything going on at Six Senses right now ?
Six Senses: Pretty fine! Can't complain. Busy as hell at the moment with all sorts of stuff on the musical side.
2. Can You please, talk about the relationship You had with Will Holland before You all both got on ?
Six Senses: Well, I know Will from Enhanced Recordings. I send him a demo from me and it all started. We chatted a lot though MSN messenger about the music and stuff. I have never met Will in real life yet, but hopefully I can go to England sometime to meet him and maybe do a follow up on Frantic.
3.How did You all come together to come up with the fantastic hit song "Frantic" ?
Six Senses: Well, in fact I send the Frantic track as a demo to Will Holland and he was directly very positive. But he also had his thoughts on the track with some percussion changes and build up and stuff. So we decided to make it a collaboration He soon had re-arranged the parts into a awesome euphoric version with a lots of power, drama and emotion in it. After that Sean Tyas was contacted to do the remix and also Estiva was contacted. They both did a terrific job in doing the remixes. Frantic made it into the top of the Dutch dance charts (nr 2 in fact). So I was very happy and proud and it was really a great push as a producer.
4. Please tell us more about the 'Mind Waves' what it is and how come You came up with the name ?
Six Senses: "Mind Waves" is a show that originally started at the end of 2005 on Futuregrooves. I did a number of shows there, which were well listened to. After that Futuregrooves got some server problems, and unfortunately they had to go offline, so that was at that time the end of "Mind Waves". But at the end of 2006 I was contacted Sense.FM and since then "Mind Waves" is back on track! I host it each fourth Friday of the month. The show is 2 hours. It contains a one hour mix by me and I have a top guest dj each month.
5. Being one of the top artists in the Dutch EDM scene right now, how You feel about the support You getting so far ?
Six Senses: I can`t complain on the support I get. I really am thrilled that my productions are being supported by the top artists in the scene. Really gives me a great boost. I still am developing my sound and style. Also I am trying to push some more boundaries to other EDM styles like tech-trance (which I produce as Sebastiaan Spang). I must say that trance isn’t that big at the moment in the Netherlands, but hopefully in the future that will change again, just like all fashion keeps coming back :).
6. Speaking on that how far You think the movement in The Netherlands will keep running the EDM industry ?
Six Senses: The Netherlands is one of the countries where EDM got developed and also got big world wide. There are a lot of good producers from the Eastern part of Europe and also the North of Europe. But also from other parts of the world new great producers are standing up. Take for instance Mike Nichol from Australia. He has done some major damage on the Dance floors with his hit track Durado. And he is continuing to devastate dance floors worldwide with his unique trancesound.
7. Did You ever think You would grow up to be who You are today and what made You to realize that You have that skill to make it happened ?
Six Senses: Well in fact I have always been into music starting from a young age. I always listened to synthesizer music. My big example in those days was Jean Michel Jarre. I was totally blown away by his music. A bit weird for a 10 year old to like that kind of music I heard a lot back then. But it was one of the things that made me the person that I am today. I also did 9 years of musical education on electronic organ, keyboard, and piano, so I had a fairly good basis for writing music. In 1998, when I first seen a video of a gig of Tiesto, that was the moment I was hooked to the atmosphere trance music has. From then I started to try to make my own melodies in tracker programs like Fast tracker. I tried but couldn’t really succeed in making good trance. In 2005 I invested in good production software. From then I realized that I maybe had it in me, but could never imagine that I would become a well known producer. I really still enjoy every day, but I still don’t really see me as an established producer, as I still am developing my skills.
8. Besides being a producer, Dj and a good remixer and everything, what does Six Senses like to do on the personal side of things ?
Six Senses: I am a very fanatic volleyball player, which I really like to do. Further more I have a full time job as an administrator. During the weekend I go out a lot with my friends to clubs and bars to party.
9. Please tell me more about the remix of "Deepwide pres Kylkai" and where would that be released and when ?
Six Senses: Well it is going to be released at Enhanced Recordings, but the release date I really don`t know. That will probably be somewhere in the beginning of 2008.
10. Are there any upcoming projects in the future that You would like to talk to us about it, or maybe share some extra information with us as well, since no one knew about it before now ?
Six Senses: Well I have just finished a new Six Senses called "Euphoria du Majeur" which has been signed to Cloud 9 Music. Furthermore I just finished a new remix of "Andrelli & Blue – Imagine" that will be released on Infrasonic Recordings, which I run together with Michael Smith (dj MK-X) from the UK. You can listen to both tracks on myspace profile. Also I am working on a collaboration with Terk Dawn, which looks to be really exciting. There still is to be released a new Six Senses at Enhanced Recordings. More info on that soon. And off course I will continue to produce more emotional styled Six Senses tracks.
11. Is there a final message for the TranceSound.net members, or fans out there or anyone else reading this exclusive interview ?
Six Senses: I would like to thank everyone for the support I am getting so far. Without trance music lovers there would be no Six Senses cause I do it all for the love for trance music. And keep up the great work here at TranceSound.net!
