Interview with Jose Amnesia    ( 21.01.2007 - 21:20 GMT UTC )

Hi there Jose Amnesia, we all know Your biography and specially the discography, which is impressive, ofcourse, but we would like, Jose Amnesia to introduce to TranceSound.net in a very proper way, so therefore we would know more and more about You, thanks :)

    1. What nationality are You ? Where was You born and raised ? Where are You currently residing ?

Jose Amnesia: I am Italian and I live in Frosinone , a small town close to Rome.

    2. What do You prefer the most, to do produce or Dj in clubs ?

Jose Amnesia: I've been producing for many years preferring that to dj’ing but lately I like to dj .

    3. Do You have any plans of traveling out to the United States to spin ?

Jose Amnesia: Yes of course i hope to spin soon in the USA where i've got my best friends and lot of supporters. Moreover we must say thanks to USA for the big support to EDM scene in the recent past. The best clubs are there and i feel much affinity with what people like in the music there.

    4. What are Your favourite EDM (Electronic Dance Music) events out there ? Sensation, Love Parade, Mystery Land... :) ?

Jose Amnesia: I've been lucky to be present as a dj at the Loveparade 2006 and i must say it's something you can't explain if you don't live it but every big event is always a big emotion for a dj.

    5. I have seen, that lately You have been working with so many female vocalists, such as Jennifer Rene, Lynn and so on, to name a few, but when working with a vocalist what do You feel they are strongest qualities need to be besides having a nice voice ?

Jose Amnesia: Well I think that even the best voice on Earth is nothing if it doesn't transmit emotions and if it doesn't make you feel in love with what you are listening.

    6. Do You do anything in preparation for production ?

Jose Amnesia: There’s no a fixed way... sometimes I start with a drum line sometimes with a voice but mostly I focus on some element that inspires me and makes me say let’s build it up.. I feel it now.

    7. I know it`s a very old track, oldie but goldie... but what inspired You the song "The Eternal" ?

Jose Amnesia: It has been long time ago that i can remember the Ibizian sunsets and the wonderful trance anthems we where listening at that time where kind of an inspiration that made me say, i want to be part of this unrepeatable age.

    8. I know that You had worked with other artists in the past such as Binary Finary, Serp, Fedo, Jennifer Rene and Shawn Mistika. Who are You interested in working with in the future production wise as well as vocalists ?

Jose Amnesia: To be honest I never say I want to do this or that in the future, I take what my karma decide for me. Moreover being a fact that the collaboration with Jennifer is giving amazing results the next future is quite unveiled.

    9. Before You was exposed to Trance and EDM what type of music did You listen to ?

Jose Amnesia: EDM has been an evolution of my past passion for new wave music. My inspiration sources where Joy Division , Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Wire. I’ve been playing guitar in early 90's but when the first big ones of electronica like 808 state, Future Sounds of London and Orb to name a few made their appearance in the scene i felt with synthesizers and started to build my own studio.

    10. At what age did You discover that You had an interest in music ?

    Jose Amnesia: Maybe around 13.

    11. Who helped You and encourage You to start producing ?

Jose Amnesia: To be honest i must say thanks just to my firm will of becoming a producer and to my former jobs that helped me to build a studio that was very expensive at that time .I'm the classic self made one man band but i even must say thanks to my friend and producer Dino Lenny that believed in my first decent EDM productions like Last Sunset in Ibiza and Eternal and introduced me in the industry. The fact i started my career with to good tunes helped me for sure with a fast decision about what to do for the rest of my life.

    12. Do You have any technical music training, if not how did You learn to produce ?

Jose Amnesia: Not at all, just my ears and my big passion in any sort of machine and software helped me in producing music. When i started producing the only way to learn was to mess with machines, midi and software. Internet, forums, blogs, MSN where not invented yet. Living in a town where it's hard even to explain what's your job didn't help too.

    13. Please tell me how Your studio looks like, either software, either hardware, cause I reckon, in the last several years You have done a lot of changings there tho :)

Jose Amnesia: My studio it's always the same. The difference is that now with the new productions techniques and the amazing possibilities technology gave us i dismissed my big mixer and lot of cables and machines saving just my two trusty Access Virus and some new swiss knife tool machine of last generation.

    14. Tell me please what inspires You the most about the record with Jennifer Rene, and I`m talking about "Louder" now, she told me a few words, in her point of view, but I would like to know more from You too.

Jose Amnesia: In my point of view i think Louder has been sort of a meeting point for two artists that even being far away and barely not knowing each other, had to express the same thing in the same moment, one with music and the other with lyrics and voice. It has been a perfect melt i mean.

    15. I have seen that Your last colaboration with Tenishia and Kirsty Hawkshaw "Outsiders" seems to have a very nice feeling to the audience... specially Armin played them a lot too, in his weekly show, A state of Trance, including his gigs... Tell us how do You feel about tho :)

Jose Amnesia: Yeah it has been a collaboration born thanks to my friend Arturo Bonetti that knew Tenishia guys and proposed me to work on Outsiders. It's rare i remix something but that track inspired me so much and i did it.

    16. Please say a few words to the TranceSound.net comunity, and tho those ones that would like to start into producing and Djing too.

Jose Amnesia: Luckily nowadays it's much easy to start producing with a computer and good ideas and thanx to digital download labels can support new artists with no risks. The only tip i can give is to try always putting something personal in the track you are composing. The reverse of the medal is that being easy to release a track even for a newcomer takes on the scene lot of new proposals so , now more than in the past , to be reckonized for a personal style is very important. It's a blessing by the way that everyone nowadays has the tools to express themselves with their music and we're getting on the scene many new talents.

Thanks for Your interview and good luck with Your next upcoming projects. :)

Jose Amnesia: Thanks to you and all the people loving EDM out there ;)
